Arbitex Gateway vs. Nightfall AI

Nightfall AI is a cloud-native DLP platform built for SaaS data discovery — scanning content in Slack, Google Drive, GitHub, Jira, and Confluence after data has been committed to those systems. It provides a developer-friendly REST API and strong PII/PHI detection for at-rest data across collaboration tools. Arbitex Gateway is a compliance-first AI governance platform that operates at the AI model boundary: inspecting, enforcing, and logging every AI request in real time before any data reaches a model endpoint. These products address different points in the data flow. If your requirement is governing what enters and exits AI models in a regulated environment, Nightfall is not in that path.

Feature Comparison

CapabilityNightfall AIArbitex Gateway
Deployment model✕ SaaS-only — all data routes through Nightfall's cloud infrastructure; no customer-managed data plane or on-premises deployment option✓ Hybrid Outpost — data plane deploys inside customer VPC; sensitive data is inspected and governed before leaving the organization's perimeter
AI boundary protection — real-time pre-model enforcement✕ Not in scope — Nightfall scans data at rest in SaaS applications after it has been committed; not positioned in the AI model request path✓ Core product purpose — every AI request inspected and governed before reaching any model endpoint; enforcement at the wire, not after the fact
Policy engine — combining algorithms and multi-provider routing✕ Rule-based detection policies for SaaS scanning — no combining algorithms, no AI routing decisions, no per-org budget enforcement✓ Policy chain engine with combining algorithms (first_applicable, deny_overrides), condition types, group filters, and route decisions across 9+ AI providers
Offline / air-gap deployment✕ Cloud-only — requires persistent internet connectivity; no air-gap deployment option for regulated or restricted environments✓ Air-gap Outpost — data plane runs inside isolated networks with signed policy bundles; no persistent cloud connectivity required
DLP accuracy transparency — published detection accuracy metrics✕ Detection accuracy is not published with per-entity-type detection accuracy scores; customers cannot independently verify detection performance✓ Three-tier detection — pattern rules, ML entity recognition, and contextual validation — with per-entity evaluation against a labeled corpus, plus confidence calibration
AI-powered contextual validation — false positive reduction✕ ML classification models for PII/PHI detection — no dedicated contextual validation tier for contextual disambiguation of ambiguous detections✓ Multi-layer content inspection pipeline: 80+ pattern rules → 40 ML recognizers → AI-powered contextual validator — reduces false positives by validating detections against natural-language context
Audit trail integrity — tamper-evident governance record~ Cloud-managed audit logs for SaaS scanning activity — not cryptographically chained; audit integrity depends on Nightfall's cloud infrastructure controls✓ tamper-proof audit record for every AI interaction — model provider, DLP tier result, compliance rule matched, enforcement action, cryptographic integrity chain
On-premises / hybrid deployment✕ No on-premises or hybrid deployment model — Nightfall operates entirely as a cloud SaaS service✓ Hybrid architecture — data plane in customer environment (Docker Compose / Kubernetes); sensitive data never transits Arbitex-controlled infrastructure
Open standards — Prometheus metrics, OTel, SIEM connectors~ Webhook-based alerting and REST API for detection events — limited native SIEM integration; no Prometheus-native metrics endpoint✓ Prometheus /metrics endpoint, OTel log bridge with trace correlation, 7 native SIEM connectors (Splunk, Sentinel, Elastic, Datadog, Sumo Logic, QRadar, Cortex XSIAM)
Compliance framework bundles — executable policy rules✕ Detection policies for PII/PHI/PCI patterns — no pre-built compliance bundles that enforce regulatory requirements as executable policy at the AI boundary✓ 12 pre-built compliance framework bundles (PCI-DSS, HIPAA, GDPR, GLBA, SOX, CCPA, BSA/AML, SEC Reg FD, FERPA, EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001) enforced at the model boundary on every request

Where Arbitex Gateway Wins

Real-time at the AI model boundary, not after the data has landed

Nightfall AI excels at discovering sensitive data that has already been committed to SaaS applications — scanning Slack messages, Google Drive files, GitHub repositories, and Jira tickets after the fact. This is valuable for SaaS data discovery and remediation. It does not address the AI model boundary threat: when an employee pastes patient records into an AI prompt, submits financial data to a model, or asks an AI assistant to summarize an NDA, Nightfall is not in that request path. Arbitex Gateway operates at the prompt boundary — inspecting and enforcing policy on every AI request before any data reaches a model. The enforcement point is architectural: governance runs inline, not retroactively.

Policy engine with combining algorithms, not simple rule lists

Nightfall's policy model is designed for SaaS scanning: define detection rules for specific data types, apply them to specific SaaS integrations, and receive alerts or automated remediation when violations are found. This works well for at-rest discovery. AI governance requires a different policy model — one that makes real-time routing decisions across multiple providers, applies combining algorithms (first_applicable, deny_overrides) to resolve conflicting rules, enforces per-org budget caps, and produces a governance record for every decision. Arbitex's policy chain engine was built for this multi-dimensional enforcement surface.

AI-powered contextual validation reduces false positives in professional language

AI prompts contain sensitive data expressed as natural-language prose — not in the structured formats that traditional DLP was trained to detect. A clinician describing a patient case, a financial analyst discussing counterparty exposure, or a logistics manager referencing cargo manifest details present data in conversational context. Nightfall's ML classifiers are calibrated for structured data patterns in SaaS content. Arbitex's multi-layer pipeline adds an AI-powered contextual validation layer that reduces false positives by verifying whether a detection genuinely represents sensitive data in its natural-language context — a critical capability for AI prompt payloads.

Measured accuracy — detection accuracy is published, not claimed

Nightfall markets its detection accuracy without publishing per-entity scores customers can verify against their own data. Arbitex does not publish per-entity figures either — the evaluation corpus is not yet large enough for them to be meaningful, and a number without a corpus size and a date behind it is not evidence. What Arbitex offers instead is a pipeline security teams can run against their own traffic and evaluate directly, with per-entity evaluation and confidence calibration built into how it is developed.
